Baptism

I was taught that the most important event in the history of Polish was: (a) Baptism Polish and (b) that it is equally important that Poland was baptized from Rome and not from Constantinople. I did not understand: (i) why it is so important (ii) in that we do not write in Greek and (iii) what is the baptism of the state.

This was explained to me by P. Jasienica and W. Hryniewicz: baptism consisted in the baptism of Mieszko I and a group of dignitaries. The meaning of liturgical rituals in this baptism was in 966 (and still is) the same as the SENSE of rituals that nomads practiced in the days preceding Moses. These rituals gained new content in Judaism and were then assimilated into Christianity. The profound and fundamental meaning of these rituals is based all the time on the SAME belief that underpins the NOMAD ritual:
(a) that the word has creative power
(b) that by doing the ritual, the historical event that is mentioned in the RITUAL becomes anew present and real
(c) that the participants of the RITUAL REALLY PARTICIPATE in the historical event that is mentioned in the ritual. Joining Polish eu is as momentous as Baptism in 966.

Poland’s loss of EU membership would be as dire as THE CANCELLATION OF THE LEGAL AND LITURGICAL CONSEQUENCES OF POLAND’S BAPTISM.
