It is known that European civilization is built on three pillars: Christianity, Greek philosophy and Roman law. To these pillars I would add another one: English fair-play, which permeates all sports and also the spirit of English law. As you know, there are three types of rules: practical, ethical, thetic. The strangest are thematic rules that serve nothing but them. An example of such a rule is that a woman with a man walks by the hand in such a way that the woman walks on the right side of the man.
Many thematic rules have an anthropological meaning: they distinguish one community from another and one nation from another. J.M. Bochenski gave the following definition of a nation: what distinguishes one nation from another is neither origin nor language nor biological characteristics, but SHADES OF CULTURE.
Teaching history and law in secondary schools and colleges without teaching anthropology and the phenomenology of religion is causing a lot of damage. It’s like teaching the polytechnics how engines work without introducing and explaining the notions of entropy and strength. The legal and fair-play rules are, in part, perhaps specific, i.e., neither practical nor ethical nor ethical. Of all the disciplines – for me, only boxing matters.
