In the novel “Paragraph 22” there is a mention of two lawyers scientists who believe that the eminent legal mind is distinguished by the fact that it never lowers itself to deal with any PRACTICAL PROBLEM. I have met two outstanding lawyers in the course of my work. I want to make it clear that these lawyers were really gifted. However, their nurtured software isolation from reality brought strange results. I asked one of these Lawyers to draw up a COMPARISON of the specific decision on the building permit and the replacement decision.
After a few minutes, I received a sequeent email, from which, unfortunately, nothing was apparent and which could not be understood. I therefore asked the Lawyer to prepare a table that would clearly show the differences between one decision and the other. The lawyer listened to me and said with a tone of uncritical superiority: “Oh, I understand – that is, you’re talking about doing it that way?” I confirmed that’s what I mean.
After two days I received a table, which unfortunately could not be understood, and intricate arguments under the table. It turns out that the lack of practical thinking capacity can be almost as much of a problem as the lack of highly abstract thinking ability. Or maybe more.
