Secrets

During the application, I ran the case of the Client, who was jokingly referred to as Mr. Scrooge. This is because he considered all invoices to be unfounded and lawyers to be a necessary evil. Even in Mr. Scrooge’s opinion, this case was to be lost, and the work on it was not worth even a single buck. However, this matter had to be brought to an end. At first instance, the case was lost. I wrote an appeal which, to the surprise of all three of us, the court upheld and the action against Mr Scrooge was largely dismissed. After such a judgment, Mr. Scrooge instructed me on the phone to come to him in person. When I arrived, Mr. Scrooge took me to the back room of his company and said to me, “What I’m going to say now is to stay only between us.

You must not tell the Patron that this conversation took place. Sure?” I nodded that clear. Then Mr. Scrooge handed me a medium-thick envelope and said goodbye to me. I returned to the office by tram and experienced an intricate INTERNAL CONFLICT between: loyalty to the Client, loyalty to the Patron and the desire to get rich quickly. In the chancellery, I told Mr. Patron, “I have to tell you something, but I ask that you never give it to Mr. Scrooge.” And so secrets arise.
