In the film “The Last Mohican” Sachem Huronów settles a case in which the interests of many parties need to be considered. These parties are: (a) Chief Magua (b) Falcon Oko (c) French officer (d) two daughters of Colonel Munro. Sachem settles the case immediately as follows: one daughter Munro will marry Chief Magua, the other daughter will burn at the pile, and Sokole Oko and the French officer will go free.

This ruling was subject to a non-arbitrary appeal, also recognized at hand: instead of Colonel Munro’s daughter, a French officer was eventually burned at the pile. This decision always seemed bizarre to me, especially when I thought of him as a lawyer. Although after a long thought, it seems to me that it is possible to understand the LOGIC OF JUSTICE of this ruling. I only met the definition of justice for the first time in college.

The definition was “suum cuique tribuere”. However, I was disappointed with this definition: After all, I had no idea who was to whom. The case, however, did not give me peace, so for the fifth year I bought the high-profile “Theory of Justice” by J. Rawls. And I read at the very beginning, “Justice is for the organization of society what truth is to SCIENCE.”
